Old Boys - Rungsted

GAME REPORT: FALCONS 3 - RUNGSTED 4

Our dear friends at KSF could not pull a team together, so we invited Rungsted to play in their place with just two days notice. This was the Falcons OB’s 4th game versus them since September, and they had handed us our own asses in each of those three games. For that reason, we brought a few heavies from 2div to help us out - shout to Gints Gailis, Kasper Melberg Hansen and Róbert Orság. 

Rene Madsen was the reason we were in this game - huge saves on post-to-post plays and sneaky short side shots. At the second intermission, when up 3-0, some unnamed individual was speaking about shutouts (or shootouts?) with a distinct Slovakian accent. Hard to tell if this triggered the jinx or not. 

A second period explosion for 3 Falcons goals came off the back of great forechecking and rush offense. Rungsted had little time to pass the puck as they usually do and their structure started to break down. Goals from Bryn Cooper, Gints Gailis and Jon Vesterholm- his FIRST AS A FALCON OLD BOY - put us in a great place after two periods.

The third was a different story. 

They came out hard, and put in a goal in the first 30 seconds and were shooting far more throughout the period than they normally do. They clawed back to tie it with 5 minutes left and put in the GWG with 3 minutes left in the game. After that, they were hanging on during a 6-4 net empty powerplay where we couldn’t convert to tie the game. 

First Period

No scoring. (Which, frankly, is a pretty amazing thing.) 

Second Period

Goal: Bryn Cooper, Unassisted. Or somewhat assisted by Rungsted’s #35 turning it over egregiously. (1-0)  

Goal: Gints Gailis, Assist: Jon Vesterholm. Streaking down the right wing on a 2-1 and scores low blocker. (2-0) 

Goal: Jon Puts it Vester-HOME!!! Assisted: Kasper Melberg Hansen. Beauty of a pass from Kasper to Jon who scores five hole. (3-0)

Third Period

Rungsted Goal: #91 Kim. Nice backdoor feed after a long O-zone possession. Respect. (3-1)

Rungsted Goal: Powerplay Goal - sniped high blocker side. Annoying. (3-2)

Rungsted Goal: Honestly. I erased this goal from my living memory. (3-3)

Rungsted Goal: Kim to Kim pass on the quick counterstrike and breakaway goal. (3-4)

The Falcons OB are 0-4 against Rungsted this seasons and that sucks mightily. The good news is that we will definitely host them again and now Jon Vesterholm has mastered the dark arts of goal scoring. Watch out, RIK.
