The Guernsey Velo Club Womens Mountain Bike Race Series will be held over seven races between May and December open only to women.
You do not have to be a Velo Club member or have any previous racing experience, the only requirements are a mountain bike and a helmet. Entrants can participate in as many or as few races as they wish.
The series is designed for anybody wishing to return to or try racing for the first time, and offers competitive and fun racing for everyone.
Races will take place on the following dates;
• 10th May Enduro - Timed downhill runs on multiple stages at the Guet;
• 17th May XC (Offroad Circuit Race) - Thorntons (TBC);
• 28th June XC (Offroad Circuit Race) - Lancresse Common;
• 30th July Evening Crit - Short course off road circuit race (TBC);
• 13th Aug Evening Crit - Short course off road circuit race Delancey Park ;
• Two Cyclocross races – (dates TBC).
All races are offroad and will have "B" lines on the technical sections designed to be rideable for all abilities.
Race entry is £5 per race or £30 for the series, you don't have to commit to the whole series. You can pay on the day but please still enter the series on the website.
Categories
• Racing - for competitive riders, you may have raced before or have been competitive in triathlon or other sports. A fairly good level of fitness would help;
• Sport - for fitness enthusiasts who have some experience riding bikes but may not have raced or would like to try racing for the first time and try a new sport;
• Challenge - for anybody new to cycling or anyone who just wants to enjoy the social aspect of riding in a group and completing the races in the series.
The courses and race lengths may be adapted for different categories.
Bikes
Any mountain bike or hybrid bike with flat bars - bikes must be in good working order with intact handle bar plugs.
Protective Clothing
No specific protective clothing is required other than a helmet. It is recommended to wear appropriate clothing for the weather conditions, and remember extra layers in the colder months!
Race Times
Weekend races generally start around 09:00.
Evening races will start at 18:30.
